Marwan Khraisheh

Marwan Khraisheh Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs Professor and Chair, Mechanical Engineering College of Science and Engineering, Hamad Bin Khalifa University Professor Khraisheh is an academic leader dedicated to advancing higher education and research in the region. In 2008, he returned from the U.S. to become the Founding Dean of Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi, developed with MIT, where he launched graduate programs in sustainable technologies and recruited over 70 faculty members, many now leading major initiatives across the region. He joined Qatar Foundation in 2014 to lead Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), managing 150 researchers on energy, water, and environmental challenges and also led research, innovation, and digital learning portfolios at HBKU. Recently, he chaired the Mechanical Engineering program at Texas A&M University at Qatar, where he developed programs and infrastructure in smart and sustainable manufacturing. In August 2024, he rejoined HBKU to establish a new mechanical engineering program and oversee faculty affairs in the college of science and engineering. Professor Khraisheh is a recipient of numerous international awards, including the US National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the SME’s Eugene Merchant Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and an elected Member of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP). Dr. Khraisheh has contributed to national and international strategic initiatives, including Qatar’s National Development and Manufacturing Strategies, and served on executive and steering committees such as the Masdar-MIT Joint Executive Committee and the MIT Energy Initiative Executive Committee. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University in 1996.
